What's the deal with Shea Butter?

Saidah Pearsall

Shea Butter is a solid fatty oil that comes from the nuts of the African Shea tree and is often referred to as the tree of life due to its exceptional healing properties. Shea Butter is an excellent moisturizer for all skin types. It can be used to care for various skin problems such as Eczema, Dermatitis, stretch marks, dry skin, acne, cracked skin, itchy skin, sunburn, skin allergies, rashes, scars, skin blemishes and brittle hair just to name a few. When purchasing Shea Butter, it is paramount to know that Commercial Shea Butter is classified into five grades:

Grade A - raw or unrefined (highest quality grade and contains the most natural vitamins, especially A & E)

Grade B - refined ( lower quality grade and should be reserved for moisturizing only)

Grade C - highly refined and extracted with solvents such as hexane

Grade D - lowest uncontaminated

Failing Grade( Grade F) - contains contaminants ( no healing properties)

It's important to remember that all Shea Butter is not equal. At Shea BODYWORKS, we are conscientious about what we put in our products, hence we only use 100% Natural Unrefined Grade A Shea Butter. Always read product labels due to the trickery going on in regards to products that contain Shea Butter.
